Description

Weak drums kill more tracks than bad melodies. If your kicks feel thin, your snares sit back and your loops never quite hit, knock audio knock was built for exactly that problem. Created by producer and sound designer DECAP, it packs five essential drum-processing stages into one interface: Punch, Saturate, Sub, Air and Clip. Instead of chaining five separate plugins, you shape the whole drum sound in one place.

Five processors, one drum-focused workflow

Each module in knock audio knock does a specific job. Punch is a transient shaper that brings attack forward, so kicks cut and snares snap. Saturate adds harmonic density with Soft, Medium and Hard modes, thickening drums, 808s and one-shots without harshness. Sub detects kick activity and layers in a pitched low-frequency tone, rescuing sampled kicks that lack real low end and letting you tune the reinforcement to your track’s key.

Air lifts the top end with Vintage and Clean modes, adding presence to snares, hats and loops without the harshness of a crude high-shelf boost. Clip finishes the chain with adjustable hard and soft clipping for loudness, aggression and character. Together they cover the entire journey from a flat drum recording to a finished, release-ready drum sound.

The DECAP drum sound, on tap

KNOCK grew out of the production approach behind DECAP’s DRUMS THAT KNOCK series, which is basically a masterclass in modern drum weight. The included factory presets give you his starting points for different drum treatments, which is genuinely useful: load a preset close to what you want, then tweak the five modules to taste. Beginners get pro-sounding drums fast; experienced producers get a speed tool that replaces a long plugin chain.

The interface is deliberately lightweight, so you can run knock audio knock across multiple drum tracks without choking your CPU. That matters because drum processing is one of those things you want on every kick, snare and loop, not just the master bus.

Who is knock audio knock for?

Hip-hop, trap, EDM and pop producers who live and die by drum impact are the core audience. Anyone working with sampled drums, 808s or programmed percussion will hear the difference immediately. If you record live acoustic drums and prefer a natural, unprocessed sound, the Sub and Clip stages may be more aggressive than you need, though Punch and Air are useful anywhere.

On the technical side, knock audio knock supports VST3, AU and AAX with Apple Silicon compatibility, running on macOS 11 or later and Windows 8.1, 10 or 11. It needs 8 GB of RAM minimum (16 GB recommended) and about 500 MB of disk space. Check the product page for the latest requirements before buying.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Punch module do?

Punch is a transient shaper that emphasizes the attack of drums, helping kicks cut through, snares sound sharper and loops gain impact.

Can KNOCK add sub bass to a kick?

Yes. The Sub module detects kick drum activity and generates a layered sub-frequency tone with adjustable pitch, adding weight to thin kicks.

Does KNOCK work in FL Studio and Ableton?

Yes. It supports VST3, which covers FL Studio, Ableton Live, Cubase, Studio One and other VST3-compatible DAWs, plus AU for Logic and AAX for Pro Tools.

Five quality processors for the price of one budget plugin is the kind of math deal-hunters love. At Plugboutique’s deal pricing, knock audio knock pays for itself the first time a kick finally hits right.
